The Chamber Orchestra of the Springs is pleased to collaborate with All Pikes Peak Reads 2013, and in particular, Steven Galloway’s APPR-selected novel, The Cellist of Sarajevo. An international bestseller in 20 countries, this intense and powerful novel was inspired by a true story and poignantly explores how one musician finds his “voice” and finds the strengthening effect of music on his emotional endurance during difficult times. As part of this collaboration, the Chamber Orchestra will be presenting the piece Fratres by Estonian composer Arvo Part. Originally scored for four cellos – the Chamber Orchestra will be inviting many cellists from Southern Colorado to participate in this unique and exciting performance as part of the October 12 and 13 concerts. (NOTE: Author Galloway will be in attendance during these October concerts as part of his APPR visitation).
The collaboration continues at our November 23 and 24 concerts that feature cellist Gerald Miller performing Saint-Saen’s Suite for Cello and Orchestra, op. 16.
