Join local crossword puzzlemaker Jim Jenista at the Ivywild School event center for a morning of competitive crossword puzzles. Jenista, who has competed in the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament (ACPT) since 2002, loves spending a weekend with fellow puzzlers. Moviegoers may remember Jenista from the 2006 documentary film Wordplay, highlighting New York Times (NYT) puzzlemaster Will Shortz and the ACPT (previously held every year in Stamford, Connecticut and now Brooklyn, New York); Jenista appears briefly in the movie.Library: Off Site
Arrive 30 minutes before the contest begins, to check in and find a seat. For the Pikes Peak Library Puzzle Contest you donít have to be a tournament-level solver. This contest is open to wordplay people who enjoy the challenge of the daily crossword puzzle. There will be two rounds of 20 minutes each, solving a Monday-to-Wednesday level NYT puzzle. The two winners from these rounds will advance to a final playoff round, solving a Thursday level NYT puzzle. Prizes will be awarded and free refreshments provided by the Ivywild School will be served.
The event is free but limited to 40 people. Register now online or call any PPLD library facility. Contestants cannot be a professional puzzle constructor, editor, or proofreader. Please note when registering if you are right- or left-handed, for seating purposes.
